Small Claims Court Locations in Ontario

If you are suing someone in Small Claims Court (“SCC”), you are pursuing a civil lawsuit against them because you believe you are either owed money or the return of personal property. In SCC, you can sue a person or a business for $35,000 or less. If you are seeking more than $35,000, you will need to take your matter to the Superior Court of Justice. When suing someone, the majority of your dealings will take place in the SCC location where you reside, where the other party resides, or where the alleged incident took place. You will want to be sure you file in the correct court because if it is, your claim may not be processed due to jurisdiction issues, and you will be redirected. This could cause further delays in your attempt to reach a resolution.

Most cities/towns will have at least one SCC location and since the onset of the pandemic, many administrative requirements can even be completed online as long as you identify which city/town your matter belongs to.
